Russian Shelling of DTEK Mine: 192 Workers Trapped Underground
As a result of the massive shelling of the DTEK mine in the Dnipropetrovsk region by Russian forces on the evening of October 19, 192 employees were trapped underground. Efforts to evacuate them to the surface are currently underway.
The shelling of the coal mining enterprise marks the fourth large-scale attack by Russian forces on DTEK facilities in the past two months. According to the Ministry of Energy, the invasion is not limited to coal infrastructure—Russian forces are also simultaneously attacking gas and power facilities. For instance, on October 7, 26 such attacks were carried out, and on October 11, several energy workers were killed in a drone attack in the Chernihiv region.
Experts note that such attacks pose significant threats to the country’s energy security, potentially increasing the urgency for the modernization and protection of infrastructure. These actions also impact the economy, complicating the extraction and supply of energy resources.
