Maximum since 2022: oil price exceeded $110 per barrel

Oil prices reach $110 amid Iran conflict

Oil prices have exceeded $110 per barrel, marking the highest level since 2022. The increase in oil prices is driven by the armed conflict surrounding Iran and the associated risks to the Middle East region.

This year’s turbulence in the energy market is associated with new geopolitical tensions. Brent crude oil futures in London jumped to $111.04 per barrel, surpassing a level not reached since July 2022. Investors are concerned about potential disruptions in oil supplies, which enhances instability in the global market. Particular attention is focused on potential logistics issues in the Strait of Hormuz, where shipping restrictions may arise.

US stock market positions have also weakened due to concerns about rising inflationary risks amid increasing fuel prices. According to estimates from Citigroup, daily oil shortages could reach between 7 and 11 million barrels.

In light of these events, Iran has claimed control over the Strait of Hormuz and announced the targeting of 10 tankers, effectively halting ship movements in this strategically vital waterway.

Fluctuations in the oil market reflect broader economic and political challenges facing the global economy. Increases in oil prices may have long-term impacts on energy security and the economic strategies of importing countries.
