On the night of December 19, Ukrainian forces successfully struck a Russian patrol military ship and a drilling platform in the Caspian Sea, reported the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the statement from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the strike was carried out to reduce the military-economic potential of the adversary. The targets included the Russian ship of project 22460 “Hunter,” which was patrolling near an oil and gas extraction platform, and the platform at the Filanovsky field, owned by the company “Lukoil.” The ship was attacked by several drones, and the extent of the damage is still being clarified.
The statement about the incidents noted that the special operation was conducted by the Special Operations Forces of Ukraine using drones. The ships of the “Hunter” project are designed to protect the maritime boundary and are capable of performing a wide range of tasks in coastal waters. Currently, the level of damage and consequences for the platform also remain under investigation.
Additionally, it was recently confirmed that a radar system RSP-6M2 on the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea was also hit, which may complicate air traffic control. These events occur in the context of Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to weaken Russia’s military influence in the region.
