Turkey shot down a drone over the Black Sea to ensure the safety of the country’s airspace. The Ministry of Defense reported the incident, noting that the UAV was detected and monitored until it was neutralized.
The Turkish Ministry of Defense stated that the detected unmanned aerial vehicle was dangerously close to the country’s airspace. Turkish F-16 fighters, trained under NATO command, were ordered to respond to ensure the safety of the air borders. The drone, which went out of control, was shot down in an area without settlements to avoid any negative consequences.
Further details about the incident remain unknown, including the origin of the drone, which Ankara has not confirmed. This event occurs against the backdrop of another incident involving a Russian drone, which attacked a Turkish vessel transporting oil to Egypt on December 13.
Independent experts note that the situation with drones in the region creates additional tension in the relations between the countries of the Black Sea basin. Such actions may increase border control and turn the airspace into a new arena for international influence competitions.
