Poland considers transferring MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine
Poland may transfer up to eight MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine, which are to be withdrawn from the Polish army by the end of December. This information was confirmed by the Deputy Minister of National Defense of Poland, Cezary Tomczyk.
According to RMF24, the Polish Air Force currently has 14 such fighters, but Poland can only transfer six to eight. By the end of 2025, these planes will reach their service life, after which their operation will become unsafe and inefficient. According to Cezary Tomczyk, the aircraft could end up in a museum, be sold, or transferred to Ukraine.
Tomczyk noted that transferring the aircraft to Ukraine will not reduce the combat capability of the Polish army, as extending the service life of the fighters is not possible. This issue is planned to be discussed at the meeting of the Presidents of Poland and Ukraine, scheduled for December 19.
On December 10, the Polish Armed Forces announced the continuation of negotiations with Ukraine on the transfer of MiG-29 fighters, which have already reached their target service life in the Polish army. President of Poland Karol Nawrocki noted that he was not informed about the possible transfer of aircraft to Ukraine. At the same time, the Ukrainian ambassador to Poland stated that the issue is about an exchange, not a free transfer of equipment.
