JD Vance proposed conditions for a peace plan between Ukraine and Russia
US Vice President JD Vance presented three key conditions for reaching a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, emphasizing the importance of a realistic approach in negotiations.
During a speech in Washington, Vance stressed that a successful peace plan should consider several fundamental aspects. The first is the need to stop the violence while preserving Ukraine’s territorial integrity. The second condition is the plan’s acceptability to both sides of the conflict, both Ukraine and Russia. The third is preventing the resumption of war in the future.
Vance noted that many critical remarks regarding peace initiatives indicate a lack of understanding or distortion of the real conditions on the ground. He characterized the opinion that strengthening sanctions, increasing weapons, or other aid could lead to a quicker resolution to the conflict as “fantasy.” According to him, success in resolving the conflict depends on the presence of competent and realistic-thinking individuals.
Previously, an analysis in the Guardian pointed to the presence of Russisms in the proposed US peace plan, raising doubts about its true authors. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump stated that Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky would be forced to accept the American plan or continue the fight, and the US even threatened to stop supplying weapons to Ukraine.
| Condition | Description |
|---|---|
| Stopping violence | The conflict must cease while maintaining Ukraine’s sovereignty |
| Plan acceptability | It must be acceptable to both Ukraine and Russia |
| Prevention of war resumption | The plan should minimize the chances of a return to conflict |
