Ukraine continues talks on a peace plan: Zelensky’s challenges and priorities
Volodymyr Zelensky talked about the progress of negotiations with international partners on resolving the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, highlighting difficult issues and the role of the USA in the process.
During discussions with international partners, the main sticking point remains the issue of territories, reported President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to the president, the USA is advocating for a quick resolution of the conflict, while Ukraine aims for a quality solution that would preserve the country’s interests. The initial “peace plan” proposed by the American side included contentious points, which were removed during the negotiations.
Ukraine is expecting five key documents, one of which concerns security guarantees that must be officially ratified by the American Congress. The recovery program, according to Zelensky, includes not only financial support for internally displaced persons but also infrastructure restoration. The estimated amount for these needs is between 70-80 billion dollars.
Security issues remain especially important. Ukraine is close to obtaining strong security guarantees from the USA, supported by Congress. The interview with the president also highlighted the importance of a reparations loan ranging from 150 to 210 billion dollars from frozen Russian assets. This loan serves as the main financial guarantee for Ukraine both in the event of continued warfare and in the context of peaceful resolution.
Zelensky also noted that in case Vladimir Putin refuses peace initiatives, Ukraine will need additional support from the USA in the form of weapons and finances. Such developments may accelerate the provision of weapons to Ukraine, as well as financial assistance for defense. The president emphasized the importance of a ceasefire for holding legitimate elections in Ukraine, which may require 60 to 90 days of stability.
Negotiations with American partners in the United States are expected soon, and the results may be discussed at a meeting with former US President Donald Trump.
