Ukraine has apologised for an incident involving a drone that crashed in Lithuania’s Pasvalys District on the morning of October 18, damaging a car. The vehicle’s driver was not injured.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said this on X. According to him, the drone was heading to attack military targets in the aggressor country, but likely went off course due to Russia’s use of electronic warfare systems.
Early on October 18, air raid alerts were declared in Lithuania’s Panevėžys and Šiauliai counties. The drone reached the country and crashed in Pasvalys District, damaging a car.
Vilmantas Vitkauskas, head of the National Crisis Management Centre, told Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT about the drone crash, the damage to the vehicle, and the fact that the driver was unharmed.
“We apologise for any inconvenience, risks and concerns that may have arisen as a result of this incident”
Heorhii Tykhyi, spokesperson for Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Previously, Ukrainian drones had also unintentionally entered the Baltic states, Finland and Romania due to electronic warfare systems. The original report also noted that Russian drones had more frequently entered Western countries.
