Lithuania warns: Ukraine’s territorial concessions threaten Europe’s security
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budzys stated that any territorial concessions by Ukraine to Russia could create a precedent that threatens the integrity of Lithuania and other European countries.
During a speech cited by Delfi, any form of border changes, even the smallest, can be dangerous. Budzys warned that concessions might encourage the aggressor to move further, “with markers and tanks” attempting to redraw Lithuania’s borders. The minister emphasized the importance of preventing the legitimization of occupied territories both de jure and de facto.
To ensure the security of Lithuania and Europe, he emphasized the need to use available diplomatic levers to support Ukraine. Budzys highlighted three main levers of influence: frozen Russian assets that should be transferred to Ukraine, Ukraine’s EU membership without obstacles, and the creation of a Special Tribunal to address war crimes.
On the same day, during a speech, the German defense minister called for preventing a capitulatory peace for Ukraine, focusing on maintaining a strong army and Kyiv’s defense capability. Europe is considering active measures in response to Russia’s hybrid aggression.
