German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrives in Kyiv on an unannounced visit

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in Kyiv on Sunday for an unannounced visit. Reuters reported on the German head of government’s trip.

Merz said he had come to the Ukrainian capital because Ukraine needs support in the coming weeks. He also linked assistance to Kyiv to the security of Germany and its partners.

“Today I came to Kyiv because Ukraine needs all our support in the coming weeks. If Russia is not stopped, sooner or later its war machine will turn against us.”

Germany’s Economy Minister Katherina Reiche arrived in Kyiv together with the head of the German government.

The delegation also included business representatives, including the heads of Siemens Energy, Hensoldt, Diehl Defence and Quantum Systems.
