Russian drone attacked a ship with sunflower oil en route to Egypt
A Russian drone struck the Turkish vessel VIVA, which was transporting sunflower oil from Ukraine to Egypt, causing damage to the command bridge.
Ukrainian Armed Forces Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk reported that this is already the fourth attack on a Turkish vessel in the last two days. Notably, the previous three ships were attacked in port, while VIVA was attacked in open sea. The attack was carried out by a kamikaze drone, which is undeniable evidence of deliberate actions since a moving maritime vessel is a difficult target to hit.
According to him, the drone specifically hit the bridge where the personnel operating the ship are located. Such attacks are not uncommon in Ukraine’s exclusive economic zone, with over 130 ships damaged since the full-scale invasion began.
Additionally, open sources reported that on December 12, Russia struck a civilian ship in Chornomorsk near Odesa, causing preliminary damage to the Cenk T vessel owned by a Turkish company. Following this, another port in Odesa was attacked, resulting in injuries to an employee of a private company.
Turkish President Recep Erdogan, in a meeting with Vladimir Putin, called for a halt to attacks on critical infrastructure and ports in Ukraine for the peaceful resolution of the conflict.
