American actress and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie wrote on Instagram about her visit to Kharkiv in late August. According to her, the city comes under shelling almost every day, which is why some schools operate at metro stations.

In Kharkiv, Jolie visited an underground training club in Pivnichna Saltivka. She also visited the Aza Nizi Maza art studio, which has operated underground since 2022 due to Russian shelling.
The actress spoke with women who are raising their children alone and waiting for their husbands to return from Russian captivity.
Jolie also honoured the memory of Oleksii Yukov, the founder of the Platsdarm group, which searched for, identified and returned the bodies of fallen servicemen. He was killed at the front in August.
Reports of her presence in other cities
In late August, reports emerged on social media about Jolie’s possible appearance in several Ukrainian cities. On August 30, the Ternopil restaurant Staryi Mlyn published surveillance footage showing a woman resembling the actress.
On the same day, local media outlets in Kremenchuk shared a photograph of a woman wearing a coat and black sunglasses, saying that the celebrity had been seen at a shopping centre in the city. On September 1, a Poltava resident published a video showing Jolie sitting at a local venue.
The trip is being described as Jolie’s third visit to Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion. In 2022, she visited Lviv, and in 2025 she travelled to Kherson, where she visited, among other places, a children’s hospital and the regional hospital.
