NERC will not review Ukrenergo’s electricity transmission tariff due to legislative collisions
The national commission regulating the energy and utilities sectors refused to review NEK “Ukrenergo’s” electricity transmission tariff from July 1. This decision is motivated by the need to address legislative collisions first.
During the commission’s last meeting, the situation that arose after the adoption of the market coupling law, which complicates compensation payments to “green” generation from the system operator’s tariff, was discussed. The regulator emphasized that there are no grounds to review the tariff until legislative shortcomings are resolved. The head of NERC, Yuriy Vlasenko, stated that commission members decided not to vote for the tariff change until legislative issues are resolved, emphasizing that provoking unjustified decisions is not advisable.
It is worth noting that “Ukrenergo” appealed with a proposal to amend the tariffs for electricity transmission and dispatching management of the energy system for 2026. However, the decision on this proposal is currently postponed. This situational collision is part of a broader issue of the electricity market in Ukraine, which requires legislative regulation to ensure the stable operation of the country’s energy system.
