The Cabinet of Ministers announced a tender for the construction of 1.3 GW of generating capacities.
The Government of Ukraine has decided to hold a competition for the construction of over 1.3 GW of new generating capacities, focusing on regions with the greatest need for energy resources.
On Friday, May 22, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced that new capacities will be built in Kyiv and Cherkasy regions with a quota of 250 MW, while Sumy, Kharkiv, and Poltava regions will receive 872 MW. Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa regions will each receive 100 MW. The project is being developed within the framework of Resilience Plans to overcome the electricity deficit that arose after Russian attacks. Tender proposals can be submitted within three months after the announcement of the competition by the Ministry of Energy.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of the incentive mechanism: the fee for the service to ensure the development of generating capacities amounts to up to 27.92 eurocents per 1 kWh for five years after the commissioning of the facilities. The maximum term for launching new capacities is up to 20 months, with requirements to the engineering protection of energy facilities.
According to Svyrydenko, these efforts are aimed at preparing for the next heating season and addressing future energy challenges. It is worth noting that Ukraine expects the launch of 1.5 GW of cogeneration units by the beginning of the next heating season, of which 400 MW will be provided by state enterprises. The National Security and Defense Council estimates the costs for resilience plans in the hundreds of billions of hryvnias.
