Drone attacks on Russian territory: oil infrastructure objects affected
On the night of December 14, several regions of Russia were attacked by drones, resulting in fires at oil facilities. Volgograd, Yaroslavl, and Smolensk regions were targeted.
In the Volgograd region, according to Governor Andrei Bocharov, drone debris caused a fire at an oil depot in Urupinsk. Firefighters and emergency services arrived on the scene. Residents of nearby houses were evacuated. According to preliminary data, there are no casualties.
In the Krasnodar Krai, in the village of Afipsky in the Seversky district, drones attacked an oil refinery, causing a power outage in the region. In the Yaroslavl region, the administration implemented the “Cover” plan, restricting flights following the threat announcement. The attack target might have been the “Slavneft-YANOS” plant.
Governor of the Smolensk region, Vasily Anokhin, reported the downing of a drone in the region without any destruction. Social media featured footage from Ozerne, indicating a possible attack on the Smolensk thermal power plant.
These events occurred in the context of recent actions by Ukraine, which halted the operation of a Russian oil extraction platform in the Caspian Sea and also struck other infrastructure objects, such as “Slavneft-YANOS”. Experts note that such attacks may have significant consequences for the Russian oil sector, affecting both the domestic market and exports.
