Scheduled peace settlement meeting in Paris canceled due to lack of US consent
The meeting, which was to take place on December 13 in Paris to discuss a peace plan to end Russia’s war against Ukraine, has been canceled. The Élysée Palace confirmed this information but did not provide further details.
Initially, it was planned that high-ranking officials from Ukraine, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom would meet to discuss the peace settlement of the conflict. American media outlet Axios noted that national security advisors from these countries were to participate in the meeting. However, according to the White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt, the decision regarding the US participation had not yet been made.
Meanwhile, there was information that the US special envoy Steve Witkoff plans to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other European leaders this weekend in Berlin. The German chancellor’s press service, Friedrich Merz, reported that a meeting with Zelensky is scheduled for December 15.
The day before, the Office of the President of Ukraine denied information that Ukraine agreed to the creation of a buffer zone in Donbas according to the American peace plan. This adds tension to an already complicated situation due to the ongoing Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine.
