Yushchenko on “Mindykgate” and the impossibility of revolution during the war: We can ask the government the right questions.

Viktor Yushchenko: Ukraine has many ways to influence the government without revolutions

The third president of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko, stated that amidst the conditions of war, there are many ways to express dissatisfaction and influence the government without the need to resort to revolutions.

In an interview with the publication Liga.net, Yushchenko emphasized that even in times of war, Ukrainians have the opportunity to communicate their position to the government without risking the country. He mentioned the example of the July protests, where the public managed to formulate questions in a way that compelled the government to respond. According to him, these protests demonstrated that even during war, changes can be achieved without harm to the country.

Yushchenko noted that there are numerous tools that allow one to influence the government without posing a threat to the state’s structure. This is particularly important in situations where a revolution could be too risky. He highlighted the importance of dialogue and the government’s readiness to listen to civil society.

In July of this year, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law that temporarily restricted the independence of anti-corruption bodies such as NABU and SAP, but after mass protests and international criticism, independence was restored. Yushchenko’s comments came amidst the recent publications of the so-called “Mindycha tapes,” which sparked a new wave of political discussion in the country.
