Detectives of the Economic Security Bureau exposed an attempt to illegally import electric vehicles in the Chernivtsi region
In the Chernivtsi region, detectives from the Territorial Office of the Economic Security Bureau halted an attempt to illegally import valuable electric vehicles that were attempted to be hidden from customs control.
According to the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine, the incident occurred at the Porubne customs checkpoint, where a driver from Georgia attempted to transport electric cars to Lviv. During the inspection of the driver’s cabin, control services discovered hidden original documents that revealed the real value of the cars – about 1 million hryvnias per vehicle. This significantly exceeded the declared value submitted to reduce customs payments.
As a result of the detected violations, detectives confiscated the electric vehicles, the freight vehicle, and the trailer that were used for their illegal movement across the border. This case is part of a broader issue related to the smuggling of excisable goods in Ukraine. Experts note that such incidents can disrupt the legal car import market, creating unequal conditions for transparent participants.
It is worth noting that in the past, there were cases where cars were imported into Ukraine disguised as humanitarian aid for military needs. Disclosing such schemes is crucial for strengthening the country’s economic security.
