The United States is working to organize trilateral talks aimed at settling Russia’s war against Ukraine. U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson said such talks are already “on the verge” of taking place.
Johnson said this in an interview with Fox News. According to him, he spoke over the weekend with U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. It was Rubio who informed him of plans to hold trilateral talks.

Johnson added that the sides are close to holding talks, but the process remains complicated and involves many nuances.
“They are on the verge of it. There are a lot of ‘moving parts,’ but the administration is doing everything possible to end this conflict. Everyone in Congress agrees, and the White House agrees, that this is the goal”

Statements on talks in November
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that a trilateral meeting of negotiating teams from Ukraine, the United States and Russia is planned for November. According to him, one of the expected outcomes should be preparations for a meeting at the leaders’ level, where the end of the war could be discussed.
On October 20, Zelenskyy held talks in Oslo with U.S. special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, as well as European representatives. After that, Witkoff spoke with Putin in St. Petersburg.
The U.S. representative said there were “preconditions” for a ceasefire in the Russian-Ukrainian war, without specifying what exactly those preconditions were.
Putin’s aide Ushakov said that Moscow was allegedly ready to resume trilateral talks in the Ukraine-U.S.-Russia format in early November.
