Denys Hetmantsev criticizes the work of the Bureau of Economic Security due to lack of competencies
Member of Parliament Denys Hetmantsev expressed dissatisfaction with the activities of the Bureau of Economic Security (BES), emphasizing insufficient effectiveness in combating shadow schemes, which, according to him, may affect future taxation for entrepreneurs in Ukraine.
In an interview for the agency “Ukrainian News,” Denys Hetmantsev noted that the BES cannot effectively counteract economic crimes, particularly due to the inexperience of its leadership. He stressed that instead of focusing on improvement, the agency pays attention to publicity, leading to the absence of real results. As a consequence, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) demands higher taxes for white business in Ukraine, especially for individual entrepreneurs.
Hetmantsev recalled that the BES conducted high-profile searches in companies such as “Yabko” and “MarketOptom,” which did not lead to significant consequences. According to him, such actions only create an illusion of control, as the companies continue to operate in the usual mode without interference from law enforcement.
The head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax, and Customs Policy reported that a parliamentary hearing with the BES leadership is planned to review each case to improve its effectiveness. Hetmantsev emphasized that due to the insufficient work of the agency, the IMF imposes strict requirements regarding the taxation of individual entrepreneurs because the state budget is not receiving the proper tax revenues.
Hetmantsev also stressed that he has seen similar problems since Oleksandr Tsyvinsky was appointed director of the BES in August 2025 when the agency was supposed to undergo renewal. However, according to him, the expected results have not yet been achieved.
